The Wisconsin football team is coming off their most miserable loss this season to the Northwestern Wildcats with a different mindset.
Starting safety and start defensive player Hunter Wohler was critical of the effort and physicality the Badgers have played with this season. Following the loss, Wohler spoke to the media and claimed that the team has played ‘Soft’ which has led to the bad results on the field. While Wohler is the first, he will not be the only player to voice their concerns with the Wisconsin football program.
Wisconsin Football Loses Again, Prompting Safety Hunter Wohler to Speak Out
The Wisconsin Badgers football team has lost their fifth game of the season, which is far more than anyone had expected heading into 2023. Upon the hiring of Head Coach Luke Fickell and his new staff, Wisconsin fans expected a drastic difference from what the team had recently done. However, the fans did not expect the team to go this far backwards after firing former Head Coach Paul Chryst.
There is quite a lot that has affected the Badgers this season, from injuries to miscommunications on-field. Wisconsin football has looked plain terrible the majority of the 2023 season, and it has gotten to the point where the players and staff cannot stay quiet about their frustrations. Fickell was critical of his team following their loss to a two-win Indians team and questioned their effort.
Now, one of the keys to the Wisconsin Badgers defense has spoken out about how ‘Soft’ the team has been thus far. Wohler emphasized the fact that the team will have to figure out ‘who really wants to win’ on the football field moving forward.
Wohler stated that the team has hit ‘rock bottom’ following their loss to the Northwestern Wildcats, which has dropped the Wisconsin football record to 5-5. Wohler stated post-game, “We came out soft, we came out flat, we have zero energy on either side of the ball.”
Was the Wisconsin Badgers Football Star Safety Too Harsh?
Following the game, the Wisconsin football defensive leader had quite a lot to say about his team. The safety was critical of everyone on both sides of the ball, and it was about time that someone did. There is no doubt Wisconsin has not hit their expectations this season, and now the team must take accountability.
Wohler finished his statements following the game by emphasizing the fact that the team needs to take their play more seriously moving forward. The message that Wohler has for anyone who continues to mess around is to ‘get out’. The team needs to get back onto the same page, and perhaps moving around the roster is a choice the staff may have to make.
