The Wisconsin football staff is hitting the road, and the Badgers are off to a hot start as they visit some of their primary 2025 recruiting targets.
Among those targets has been Oswego, Illinois native and three-star linebacker Carson Cooney. Cooney currently holds eight total scholarship offers, including offers from Illinois, Iowa, Michigan State, and Northwestern as well as the Badgers. Defensive Coordinator Mike Tressel has loved what he has seen from the linebacker and intends on making him a Badger.
Wisconsin Football Staff Consistently Eyeing 2025 Linebacker Carson Cooney
Earlier in the week, the Wisconsin Badgers football staff set out on a recruiting trip to visit some of their priority targets in the 2025 class. Thus far, Wisconsin has impressed and managed to get closer with some recruits who have not been able to make it to campus.
One recruit Wisconsin football has been eyeing but has not had the chance to meet with much is Carson Cooney. Cooney is a physical, talented linebacker from Illinois who has recently appeared on the radar of plenty of college programs. This past season the linebacker stepped up his play and managed to establish himself as a defensive play-maker.
What has really set Cooney apart thus far is his field vision and football instincts. The linebacker always finds his way towards the football and consistently finishes the plays he is involved in. Cooney is also a versatile linebacker as he finds success in coverage playing the ball or attacking the gap to tackle the running back.

For the versatile linebacker Carson Cooney, the recruiting process has been rather slow since the recruit just recently burst onto the scene. The recruitment of Cooney is just beginning, which is why the Wisconsin football staff is trying to close in before other programs get their chance.
Wisconsin Badgers football Head Coach Luke Fickell has been vocal about the physicality and intensity he needs on his team. Cooney is just the guy the Badgers have been looking for, and given their extreme interest in the recruit, it seems as though the staff will not stop until they get the commitment.
