Following a difficult loss to Nebraska where the Wisconsin basketball team once led by double digits, there are plenty of questions.
Against the Nebraska Cornhuskers, the Badgers looked like a different basketball team as they strayed away from their typical style of play. Wisconsin forced far too many bad shots and allowed Nebraska to take plenty of open looks. Now, Wisconsin basketball will have to regain their focus ahead of their next game to maintain a two seed heading into March.
Wisconsin Basketball Loses Lead Late, Suffers Tough Setback Loss to Nebraska Cornhuskers
In a game where the Wisconsin basketball team once held a 19-point lead, the Cornhuskers walk away with the victory and hold their heads high. Following the loss the Badgers sat courtside in frustration and disbelief before heading into the locker room to discuss the loss. What happened against the Cornhuskers is unacceptable, and every player and coach for Wisconsin understood that immediately after the game.
The Badgers shot 42.2% from the floor and 32.3% from three-point range while the Cornhuskers shot 44.8% from the floor. Wisconsin nailed ten three-point shots against the Cornhuskers, but five of those males came from guard AJ Storr alone. Chucky Hepburn went a difficult 0-for-5 from deep as the Badgers struggled to make any buckets in the second half of play.
The Impact: What Does a Loss Against Nebraska Mean for Wisconsin Badgers Basketball?
There is no doubt that the loss to the Cornhuskers is a bad look for the Wisconsin Badgers basketball squad, but it might not be the worst thing for the team at this point in time. Wisconsin basketball absolutely should have walked away with the victory, but after allowing a 12-point run the Badgers saw the win slip away. Despite the loss, Wisconsin could certainly keep their current two-seed projection for March by limiting their losses the rest of the season.
Clearly, that is the goal for the team all year, but coming down this home stretch will be some vital games for the Badgers. The Boilermakers game is always a challenge, and given their current form, it could be even more difficult. However, the game to really watch for will come against the Indiana Hoosiers away, who like the Cornhuskers play significantly better basketball at home.
Wisconsin Shifts Focus Towards Upcoming Battle Against Purdue Boilermakers
While there is no way to truly tell, the loss to Nebraska feels as though Wisconsin was looking past the Cornhuskers and at their next opponent, the Boilermakers. Wisconsin was able to get out to an early lead and went into the half playing confident basketball. The second half however, the Badgers played differently and played as though the game was already finished.
In their upcoming game against the Purdue Boilermakers, Wisconsin basketball cannot afford to lose focus otherwise the score could get out of hand quick. The Badgers must stick to their style of play and continue to move the ball around against a stellar defense.
