The Wisconsin Badgers are once again on top of the sports world.  For the fourth time since 2019, Wisconsin will have another banner to raise.

The Wisconsin women’s hockey team won the NCAA Women’s Frozen Four with a thrilling overtime victory against Ohio State. Just 2 minutes into overtime, Kirsten Simms buried the game-winning goal for the 8th championship for the Badgers:

The Badgers rallied from a 3-1 deficit to force overtime in the waning seconds of the 3rd period on a Kirsten Simms penalty shot.

Ridder Arena on the campus of the University of Minnesota was filled to the brim with Wisconsin fans. Raucous chants of ‘Let’s Go Badgers’ regularly drowned out any attempts at cheers from the smattering of Buckeye fans in attendance.

This marked the third straight year that the Badgers and Buckeyes battled in the national championship game. Both the 2023 and 2024 title games ended in 1-0 finishes, with Wisconsin winning the former, Ohio State the latter.

The low-scoring games of the past were thrown out the window in today’s contest. The Buckeyes opened the scoring in the 1st period. On a Wisconsin power play, Joy Dunne sprung free and netted the short-handed to tally to give the Buckeyes the early lead.

That lead would last all of 12 seconds, as Laila Edwards found the back of the net with the man-advantage to tie the game at 1 goal apiece.

Here is the video of the game winning goal:
