The Wisconsin Badgers have significantly up’d their recruiting game since Luke Fickell took over as head coach.  For the first time in a long time, they are competing for recruits that have significant offers to play for Universities that are consistently in the College Football Playoff conversation.  In fact, just yesterday they received a commitment from a four-star defensive back that had offers from Alabama, LSU, and Clemson.  Now they are doing what they can do get another massive commitment.

The peak of the 2024 recruiting cycle now in the rear view mirror, the Wisconsin Badgers got a head start on 2025 last week. In addition to landing their first sophomore commit, the Badgers brought in Top247 cornerback Tariq Hayer (Washington D.C./St. John’s) for an unofficial visit.

Hayer excels in both man and zone coverage locking down the offense every chance he gets. Hayer has an excellent eye for the ball and he is able to quickly shift into the right position to make a play. In his Sophomore season highlight reel, Hayer picks off opposing quarterbacks whenever they try to force the ball towards the man he is covering. Hayer also has elite speed which often makes him a threat to score when the ball is in his hands.

Perhaps the best trait that the corner back has involves his body control and positioning. Hayer stays with each play because he is able to position himself correctly every time. The corner back can find a balance between using his strength to fight for position and box-out his opponent. The ability and skill of Hayer is hard to match, which is why he has been one of the most highly recruited 2025 prospects thus far.

The Wisconsin Badgers are one of the top trending schools during the 2023 off-season.  Luke Fickell (head coach) and Phil Longo (offensive coordinator) have completely changed the game when it comes to level of recruits.  However, no one has forgotten what sets the Wisconsin Badgers apart year in and year out.  Their defense.  Consistently ranking near the top in every category, the Wisconsin Badgers develop NFL ready players year after year.

That can certainly be the case with Tariq Hayer.  It won’t be easy though.  According to Rivals.com, Hayer has offers from Boston College, Georgia Tech, Louisville, Mayland, Minnesota, Notre Dame, Penn State, Tennessee, Wisconsin, Auburn, Clemson, Ohio State, and more.  He has taken visits with Maryland (April 2022), Notre Dame (June 2023), Penn State (April 2022), and Wisconsin (June 2023), and Virginia Tech (July 2022).
