The Wisconsin Badgers will begin its BIG10 Conference tournament on Thursday against the Maryland Terrapins with tipoff scheduled for 1:30 p.m CT. This matchup will be televised on the BIG10 Network.
Maryland is the 12th seed in the BIG10 Tournament and had a 7-13 record in conference play during the regular season. The Terrapins overall are 16-16 on the season. They are looking to play spoiler in Wisconsin’s BIG10 title hopes on Thursday.
The Badgers in this contest are looking for win number 20 on the season and they have a 19-12 overall record this season. Wisconsin finished fifth in the BIG10 Conference during the regular season with an 11-9 record.
In the last matchup for the Wisconsin Badgers, they last played on Sunday against the #3 Purdue Boilermakers on the road and lost that game by a final score of 78-70. Greg Gard’s squad had three different players score in double figures in that matchup.
John Blackwell led the way for Wisconsin in that matchup with 18 points. Tyler Wahl and AJ Storr each scored 17 points against Purdue. Wahl did grab 10 rebounds and record five assists in that matchup as well. They will need to be efficient also on the defensive end against Maryland.
Players To Watch For on the Maryland Terrapins Against the Wisconsin Badgers
Maryland head coach Kevin Willard’s second season has not gone as planned. However, the Terrapins have a puncher’s chance because they did have a player who made the first team in the BIG10 Conference. Jahmir Young was named to that team and he scored 11 points, grabbed eight rebounds, and recorded seven assists against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights.
Maryland won that matchup against Rutgers on Wednesday night by a final score of 65-51. Three other players scored in double figures for the Terrapins. Donta Scott scored 16 points, Julian Reese scored 12 points, and Jaime Kaiser Jr. also added 11 points for the Maryland Terrapins.
The Wisconsin Badgers need to play tight defense in this matchup. Maryland has players that can score the basketball. In the last matchup, the Badgers defeated the Terrapins 74-70 on February 20. It is very possible that the Wisconsin Badgers beat the Maryland Terrapins by a score similar to that on Thursday. The winner of this game would face the #4 Northwestern Wildcats on Friday at 1:30 p.m. CT also.
