The Wisconsin Badgers will have a tough task against Marvin Harrison Jr. and the Ohio State Buckeyes this upcoming Saturday night. Wisconsin is not having the year they have hoped for, and Ohio State is the third-ranked team in the nation. They are coming off a huge 20-12 win at home against 10th-ranked Penn State this past weekend.
The Badgers are looking to spoil the Buckeyes’ playoff hopes, and will see about that. Marvin Harrison Jr. is going to be an absolute head coach to cover all night long for Wisconsin. There is a reason why he is projected to be a top-five pick in the upcoming 2024 NFL Draft.
Harrison Jr. can be the best wide receiver prospect coming out of college since Calvin Johnson Jr. out of Georgia Tech in 2007. That year, he was drafted second overall by the Detroit Lions. Is it possible that Marvin Harrison Jr. can be the in the running for the Heisman Trophy this season along with players like Caleb Williams of USC and Michael Penix Jr. of Washington?
Ohio State quarterback Kyle McCord believes that Harrison Jr. should be in the conversation for the Heisman Trophy this season. He told Matt Galatzan of sports illustrated after the game on Saturday against the Penn State Nittany Lions:
“If it’s truly the award that goes to the best player in college football, I don’t see how he’s not in the mix. What he’s done, especially these last few games, I don’t know if we’ve seen a stretch like that, just how consistent he is, how reliable he is.”
The Wisconsin Badgers Can Try to Slow Down Ohio State Buckeyes Wide Receiver Marvin Harrison Jr. This Weekend But Good Luck With That
Wisconsin’s defense is going to have problems trying to guard Harrison Jr. against Penn State. He caught 11 passes for 162 yards receiving and one touchdown. Marvin Harrison Jr., so far this season, has caught 42 passes for 766 yards receiving and six touchdowns. He is averaging 18.2 yards per reception.
Head coach Ryan Day told Galatzan about Harrison Jr. after the game on Saturday:
“I’ve got to give Marvin Harrison so much credit. To go for 11 catches for 162 and a touchdown when I think most teams, the first thing they look at is ‘How do we take away Marvin Harrison?’ We targeted him 16 times and I think he was open for most of those 16 plays. So he showed up in a big spot today.”
There have been only two times this season where Harrison Jr. did not have 100 yards receiving. It was against Indiana and Notre Dame. He has had 12 100-yard receiving games for the Ohio State Buckeyes, and that is second all-time in school history. David Boston has the most in school history with 14, and he can very well break that mark.
There is no doubt that Marvin Harrison Jr. should be in the running for the Heisman Trophy this season and should be at least a finalist. Harrison Jr. also said:
“I think you could say a lot’s on my shoulders, but that’s my job at the end of the day. My teammates and coaches count on me to be the focal point of the offense, and each and every week I know they’re going to lean on me. Offense kind of goes as I go.”
Marvin Harrison Jr. is the most important player for the Ohio State Buckeyes. The only kind of chance that the Wisconsin Badgers have of an upset against them is if he somehow gets hurt. That’s how talented this player is. The Buckeyes have a 7-0 record heading into this football game, and the Badgers have a 5-2 record heading into this football game.
