Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields could be playing his final game with the franchise on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers (8-8) on the road. Fields has never beaten Green Bay in his NFL career yet. He is about to finish the third year of his NFL career.
There will be many questions about him in the offseason whether to keep him or not. Fields this season has completed 61% of his passes for 2,414 yards, 16 touchdowns, and nine interceptions. He has also rushed 630 yards on 116 carries and four touchdowns. Justin Fields has averaged 5.4 yards per carry.
Chicago Bears fans were chanting at Solider Field this past Sunday in Chicago, Illinois for them to keep Justin Fields for the long term. Chicago wide receiver D.J. Moore told the media after the game was over on Sunday by saying:
“I said it before, I’m going to keep saying it. Today, the Houdini act should’ve put the nail in. I want [Fields] to be the quarterback. I said what I said. Now it’s on the higher-ups. It’s up to them.”
It will be interesting to see what general manager Ryan Poles decides to do at the end of the season. The Chicago Bears currently have two first-round picks in the 2024 NFL Draft. They own the number one overall selection because of the Carolina Panthers trade. Carolina is currently 2-14. Chicago also has the 10th overall selection in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Chicago Bears Quarterback Justin Fields Has One More Year Remaining on His Contract and Will See What Happens After the Green Bay Packers Matchup
Fields has yet to beat the Packers, but a lot can change for him if they can pull off the upset and eliminate Green Bay from playoff contention on Sunday. Chicago is eliminated from playoff contention and is looking to play spoiler in this matchup.
If Chicago does win, they can very well keep Fields. If not, then interesting discussions will be had. Justin Fields has one more year remaining on his contract and will see if Chicago or another team is able to pick up his fifth-year option.
There would be some teams that would trade for him. Justin Fields is only 24 years old, but with a draft class that has Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, and Jayden Daniels, it would feel malpractice if Chicago didn’t take one of them unless they drafted Marvin Harrison Jr., the wide receiver from the Ohio State Buckeyes, who is an elite talent.
No matter what happens after the Green Bay Packers game, Chicago will have to make decisions about Fields’s future. The Bears should move off of Fields to reset the quarterback clock, but they will keep him if they keep head coach Matt Eberflus around. Be thankful that Jordan Love is the answer for the Green Bay franchise at the quarterback position.
