Green Bay’s 2021 regular season is a wrap, they’ve locked up the #1 seed and have their sights set on a post season run. Before we move onto the post season, here are our Top 10 Moments of Green Bays 2021 Regular Season:
#10: Kurt Benkert drags Mike Florio
I know this is a little unorthodox, but we are starting with something that happened off the field. Mike Florio (who runs ProFootballTalk on Twitter) found himself on the losing end of a twitter exchange with Packers’ QB Kurt Benkert. Kurt spoke out about ProFootballTalk putting out false info when Aaron Rodgers tested positive for Covid-19. Mike Florio had his own unique response to this… However what Mike wasn’t expecting was that Kurt had quickly become a fan favorite in Green Bay and had a tremendous following on social media. Kurt Benkert not only made Mike Florio and ProFootballTalk look utterly ridiculous on Twitter, but he did it all while calling out his fake news.
#9: The Shut Out
One week removed from Green Bay’s defense holding Kansas City’s offense to 13 points, they shut out Russell Wilson for the first time in his career after 150 regular season starts. This game marked the fourth time in five weeks that Green Bay’s defense held their opponent to 14 or fewer points and really started to identify themselves as a strength on this team.
#8: 37 Seconds
It only took three weeks into the 2021 NFL season for Aaron Rodgers to remind the world that even with :37 seconds left, on his own 25 yard line, and NO timeouts, is still too much time. This moment was special as we saw Aaron Rodgers have true unfiltered emotion on the sideline as Mason Crosby’s game winning kick sail through the uprights. We knew at that moment without a doubt, he was “all in” this year.
#7: Rodgers Putting Ramsey on Skates
Green Bay’s first score in their 36-28 win again the LA Rams was a good one. Aaron takes the option on an RPO, and sees Jalen Ramsey right in his face, Rodgers’ reaction? Pump fake to no one, beat Ramsey to the end-zone, and send Ramsey spinning. It was an incredible play.
#6: Packers end Arizona’s Undefeated Season Missing 11 Starters
Week 8 had a multitude of story lines going into it, and even more coming out of it. To say Green Bay was shorthanded this week was an understatement. They had practice squad guys not only suiting up, but starting in the biggest game of the year to date. Not only did Aaron Rodgers show off his ability to make players around him better, but this game really showed that Green Bay’s defense was Super Bowl caliber.
Oh.. and you can’t forget this was Rasul Douglas’ coming out party.
#5: The 300, 200, 100 Game.
Green Bay made history in week 5 of the 2021 NFL season. The first game in their 100 year history that they had a 300 yard passer, 200 yard receiver, and 100 yard rusher in the same game. Not to mention the drama filled ending with the abundance of missed field goals on both sides. This afternoon was special for a multitude of reasons, but none bigger than the first 300, 200, 100 game in team history.
#4- Locking Up the One Seed and Eliminating the Vikings at the Same Time
It felt like a punch in the gut when Green Bay lost to Minnesota 34-31 earlier in the season. Minnesota gloated, acted as if they won the Superbowl, and didn’t let us live it down. That is until they lost to the Lions the very next week. For all those reasons and more, week 17 was glorious. Kirk Cousins or no Kirk Cousins, it felt amazing beating up on Minnesota and winning 37-10. The win also secured our #1 seed in the NFC, and eliminated Minnesota’s hope of any playoff appearance. Week 17 the NFC North came full circle and the true kings of the North were crowned.
#3: “I still own you”
A moment that will live on forever. Week 6 of the 2021 NFL season, Aaron Rodgers runs in for the game sealing touchdown late in the fourth quarter. What happens next will haunt Bears’ fans memories for years to come:
#2: Number 443
17 years in the making, Aaron Rodgers breaks Brett Favre’s record for Touchdown passes in a Packers uniform. Christmas Day in Lambeau Aaron Rodgers hits Allen Lazard in the flat and Lazard did the rest. The night was topped off by a 24-22 win against the Browns. This moment was one we will not see replicated for decades.
#1: Aaron Jones + 4 TDs + Bryan Engel = Special Night
On September 20th, 2021 Green Bay beat Detroit 35-14 with the help of Aaron Jones’ historic 4 touchdown performance. This was only the second 4 touchdown performance by a Packer since 2000 (the other was Aaron Jones in 2019). However the most memorable part of the night came after the game when we learned that Jones had lost his necklace with this dad’s ashes in it. Green Bay’s head trainer Bryan Engel was up until 2:00am that night searching the field for it. When the fans were told about this the following day, I think it gave most of us a realization of how much of a family this team really is.
Green Bay’s 2021 season left us with an incredible amount of never-forget moments. Here is to a post season run that we will hopefully never forget.
