The Green Bay Packers are, by far, one of the youngest teams in the NFL. The massive amount of turnover they’ve had from aging veterans to first or second year players over the last few seasons has been eye-opening.
That being said, there are still a number of veterans on this roster who will certainly have an Impact on this team. One of those veterans got singled out by head coach Matt LaFleur.
Green Bay Packers Head Coach Matt LaFleur Makes Telling Statement About Veteran
According to Matt Schneidman of The Athletic:
Matt LaFleur on the shape AJ Dillon is in:
“This is THE best I’ve seen him. Hands down.”
AJ Dillon will quite literally be fighting for his roster life this season. After Green Bay decided to move on from Aaron Jone in favor of Josh Jacobs, Green Bay chose to bring back AJ Dillon on a one year deal. They also drafted electric running back MarShawn Lloyd out of USC.
After a down year in 2023, Dillon is looking forward to a better year in 2024. Despite rushing for 613 yards last season, he averaged 3.4 yards per carry. These numbers may not seem terrible for a backup running back, but Dillon’s numbers have declined each season since 2021.
His debut as a second-string running back behind Jones came in the 2021 NFL season. The Packers’ top two running backs surpassed 1,000 all-purpose yards that year. In his own right, Dillon rushed for 808 yards and averaged 4.3 yards per carry in gaining 1,116 all-purpose yards.
Dillon’s production dropped a bit in 2022, but he was still quite productive. In all, he rushed for 770 yards and averaged 4.1 yards per carry for 976 all-purpose yards.
It will be interesting to see how effective AJ Dillon is in 2024 given the new shape he is in.
