Terry McLaurin is the latest name on the star wide receiver list to be a possible traded candidate. It was announced earlier this off-season that he would not participate in off-season programs with the Washington commanders. He is entering the final year of his rookie deal and is seeking a new contract.
What has Terry McLaurin accomplished?
Over the first three years of his NFL career he has accumulated 222 receptions, 3,090 yards, and 16 touchdowns. He has done so with Case Keenum, Dwayne Haskins, Colt McCoy, Alex Smith, Ryan Fitzpatrick, and Taylor Heinicke at quarterback.
McLauin has quickly turned into one of the best young wide receivers in the NFL. With the wide receiving Market exploding, it only makes sense for him to request a new contract. He joins Deebo Samuel and AJ Brown as receivers who are willing to sit out until a new deal is reached.
What would it take to trade for McLaurin?
If the Washington Commanders want to lock him up long term it will likely cost over 20 million per year. Ben Standig of the Athletic reported that “sources on both sides anticipate intensified extensions talks for McLaurin starting around or after the NFL draft.” The draft is just a few days away and if a contract is going to happen, it is likely imminent. However if draft day comes and no deal is done, McLaurin could likely be a trade a candidate. This is what we predict a trade for Terry McLaurin would look like:
Packers receive:
- WR Terry McLaurin
- 2023 fourth round pick
Commanders receive:
- 2022 first and third round pick
- 2022 fourth round pick
- 2023 fourth round pick
Both Deebo Samuel and AJ Brown would’ve likely call for multiple first and second round picks. McLaurin, wild great, may not demand such a high trade value. Additionally Terry McLaurin would not receive top of market value for his contract. It is likely he could be had for 20 million a year, give or take. AJ Brown and Deebo Samuel both seem committed to that Davante Adams / Tyreek Hill type of money.
Terry McLaurin is by far the cheapest “wide receiver #1” on the market.
