Tampa Bay Buccaneers wide receiver Chris Godwin was listed on the injury report on Wednesday ahead of the Green Bay Packers matchup on Sunday. He did not practice then because of a knee injury and he also did not practice on Thursday due to it. Godwin is on track to miss Sunday’s big matchup against Green Bay.
He has been a big part of the Buccaneers offense this season. Chris Godwin has caught 58 passes for 659 yards receiving and one touchdown this season. He is averaging 11.4 yards per reception and has also been targeted 96 times this season. Godwin is one of the primary targets for quarterback Baker Mayfield.
With the injury to him, keep an eye on rookie wide receiver Trey Palmer being the second-option behind Mike Evans this weekend. Trey Palmer has caught 28 passes for 244 yards receiving and two touchdowns, along with averaging 8.7 yards per reception.
Palmer has shown some flashes for the Buccaneers offense this season, but Godwin is by far a better number two than he is.
With Chris Godwin Possibly Sidelined for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers Against the Green Bay Packers Mike Evans Needs To Be Double Teamed
One of the things the Packers’ defense will need to do this weekend with Godwin possibly being sidelined is double-teaming Buccaneers wide receiver Mike Evans. Quarterback Baker Mayfield is going to force-feed him this weekend possibly and Green Bay is going to have to try and limit his damage and make other wide receivers, running backs, and tight ends beat them in the passing game.
Evans has caught 62 passes for 1,020 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns so far this season for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He has been over 1,000 yards receiving in every single season in his NFL career. Evans is also averaging 16.5 yards per reception and has been targeted 109 times this season.
Jaire Alexander was back at practice for Green Bay on Thursday. He has missed the last five games for them. That would be huge for the Packers if he is able to return and cover him and also have some help over the top. The Tampa Bay Buccaneers possibly not having Chris Godwin in the passing game is a huge blow to them.
