The Wisconsin Badgers lost to Illinois 34-10 on Saturday. The team is in total free fall mode as they lost to a perennial bottom feeder of the conference. Looking through the box score, there are many stats that stand out. However, there is one statistic that really sums up how the Badgers season is going. Check out this stunning Badgers statistic in the loss vs. Illinois.

In total, the Badgers had 2 rushing yards. You read that right. 2 rushing yards. Chez Mellusi led the way with 16 but otherwise no one else hit double digits. Because college counts sack yardage as rushing yards, the team ended with a total of 2. The number of arrests made by the UW-Madison police was higher than the amount of rushing yards the Badgers had. A total of 11 people were cited and ejected from Camp Randall during the game. Most were cited for underage alcohol possession. This is an embarrassing statistic for the Badgers as it should not be hard to outrush the number of arrests made by the UW Madison police department.
Changes Have To Be Coming
It is hard to see how Paul Chryst keeps his job here. Wisconsin has had tough seasons before but this is different. The Badgers have always been able to run the ball no matter the season. The struggles in other seasons often came from lack of big play ability in the passing game. The fact that Wisconsin cannot run the ball is a problem. The fact that it is against Illinois is an even bigger problem. It will be interesting to see what happens with Chryst this week. Regardless of if it happens this week or down the road, expect big changes to come for the Wisconsin Badgers.
This is going to be a rough season to watch. The Wisconsin Badgers have little life in them which was evident in the loss to Illinois. As long as Chryst in the coach, expect more performances like this. The stunning “more arrests than rushing yards” statistic in the loss to Illinois highlights the need for a change.
