The Panthers have acquired QB Baker Mayfield from the Browns for a 2024 Conditional 5th-Round pick. Baker Mayfield has finally found his way out of Cleveland.
After acquiring Deshaun Watson the Browns were left with a conundrum on what to do with Baker. The troubling thing about the entire situation was Cleveland left Baker completely in the dark on his future with the team. Watson’s pending legal troubles, the team was unclear on if Baker would be needed or not.
With the situation souring, it seems like the Panthers swooped in to secure their guy. What a phenomenal haul by the Panthers to acquire a franchise QB talent for a 5th round pick. Swindled is the word that comes to mind when I think of how they were able to get him.
A new QB in Carolina: The #Panthers are acquiring former No. 1 overall pick Baker Mayfield from the #Browns for a 2024 conditional 5th-round draft pick, sources tell me and @TomPelissero. Deal is pending a physical. All parties split the financials to make it happen. pic.twitter.com/xuTLqosmZm

Talk about an upgrade from Teddy Bridgewater and Sam Darnold. Baker is just 2 seasons removed from leading the Browns to the AFC Divisional game while throwing for 3,53 yards, 26 TDs, and 8 INTs. Mayfield will get to play with a new tackle in Ickey Ekwonu who was drafted 6th overall in the most recent NFL draft from NC State. He’ll also have a healthy Christian McCaffrey at his disposal. I fully expect a Baker Mayfield re-emergence while taking snaps in Carolina. You heard it here first.
