The Packers and Marquez Valdes-Scantling (MVS) have been in communication for weeks now. While MVS has gained significant interested throughout the league, his talks with Green Bay have never stopped. It is easy to see why he is gaining so much attention throughout the league. His 20.9 yards per catch in 2020 was the highest yards per catch of ANY starting WR the last 8 SEASONS. Any team can give him 120 targets and watch the fireworks down field.
Latest Contract Update:
As recent as today the Packers have been making significant strides towards resigning the WR:
#Packers continue to talk with WR Marquez Valdez-Scantling in hopes of re-signing him, and a deal could come this weekend. MVS had other offers before GB jumped in, so he has options. There’s a starting position waiting for him in GB though.

Even more so after the Davante Adams trade:
An offshoot of the Davante Adams trade is that the #Packers could get into the bidding for Marquez Valdez-Scantling. He has drawn interest around the league and it was assumed he was gone. Green Bay has the cap room now to make a run, but they’ll need to move on it fast.

While Green Bay is unlikely to last long if a bidding war starts to happen over MVS, expect them to be in the mix for a reasonable amount.
Why would MVS want to come back?
It is pretty clear that MVS could get a larger pay day somewhere else. Even with Davante Adams’ trade, the Packers have other things to worry about as well. A Jaire Alexander extension to start. However two things remain true in Green Bay if he returns; he will have Aaron Rodgers throwing him the ball, and he will be a starter. Not all teams can guarantee one of those things. No one can guarantee both.
It is no secret that MVS would be a vocal point of this offense if he returned. With Lazard being the mid range sure handed WR, MVS would continue to be asked to bring that deep threat presence. Aaron Rodgers is one of the best deep ball throwers in the league and would provide ample opportunities for MVS to prove himself.
Overall Green Bay continues to inch closer to a much needed contract with MVS. It appears there is more reporting going on around Green Bay and MVS than any other team currently. One of think that makes the Packers the favorites. There has been mutual interest for months, we hope (and expect) to hear a deal soon.
