The Green Bay Packers signed Sammy Watkins earlier this week. The move was an effort to help replenish their depleted wide receiver core. Davante Adams, of course, was traded to the Las Vegas Raiders for a first and second round pick. Marquez Valdes-Scantling also departed, signing a three-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs. Despite the addition of Watkins, the Packers are still in desperate need of help at the wide receiver position. Packers GM Brian Gutekunst is known for taking players with intense athletic abilities, which makes the Packers’ recent meeting with Isaiah Weston very interesting.
Isaiah Weston Is an Incredible Athlete
One of the ways that front offices determine the players they wish to draft is by looking at RAS. RAS stands for Relative Athletic Scores and players are ranked on a scale of 1-10. Typically, players with high RAS are able to develop into above-average NFL players, if not great ones. For example, Rashan Gary had a RAS of 9.95. When Gary was drafted, many fans were upset that Green Bay did not draft Brian Burns. However, Burns scored a tad below Gary in RAS with a 9.9.
Isaiah Weston, too, has a very high RAS score. In fact, his RAS score is one of the highest a player can achieve.
Northern Iowa WR Isaiah Weston met virtually with the #Packers, #Bengals and #Browns, to name a few.
Lots of interest in a 6-4, 210 pound WR that ran a 4.42, leaped a 40 inch vertical and 135 inch Broad Jump en route to a 9.99 RAS score (h/t @MathBomb). pic.twitter.com/eSMATltZJo

The only wide receiver to ever have a perfect 10 RAS score was Calvin Johnson.
Isaiah Weston in College
Isaiah Weston may not have gotten much attention having attended Northern Iowa. However, his play on the field stood out and he was very productive. In 2019, Weston was a freshman and put up 1,053 yards and 10 touchdowns. After a shortened 2020 season, he bounced back in 2021. As a junior, Weston had 883 yards and five touchdowns. He averaged 23.9 yards per reception.
Obviously, this is the kind of deep threat the Packers offense needs. Isaiah Weston is just the 42nd ranked wide receiver in the draft, so he will likely be a later round draft pick or undrafted free agent. Still, he is a name Packers fans should keep an eye on.
