The 2023 NFL offseason has not been a kind one to the Green Bay Packers. Aaron Rodgers is breaking up with the franchise after many amazing years and teams are poaching Green Bay’s own free agents. It has left Brian Gutekunst and company with a ton of work to do the rest of the offseason to keep this team competitive.
So far this offseason, Allen Lazard has left to sign with the New York Jets in free agency. Marcedes Lewis and Randall Cobb have also been connected to the Jets, although at this point in time they are both free agents still.
Finally, the Chicago Bears have once again poached an impact free agent from the Packers. They came in and signed away tight end Robert Tonyan, who has had a good showing over the last couple of years in Green Bay.
Now, the Packers must find a new tight end for Jordan Love to work with. The tight end options on the roster currently are very underwhelming.
Packers Linked To Intriguing Tight End In Second Round Of NFL Draft
Most fans are expecting Green Bay to address the tight end position in the upcoming 2023 NFL Draft. They currently hold the No. 15 overall pick in the first round and a hot topic target for them is Notre Dame standout Michael Mayer. However, the team does have another needs and could look at an intriguing option in the second round.
Kenneth Teape of NFL Analysis Network took a look at three intriguing second-round options for the Packers. In his opinion, Oregon State star Luke Musgrave would be a good fit in Green Bay.
A knee injury robbed Musgrave of a true breakout campaign in 2022, as he appeared in only the first two games of the season before being sidelined. A well-rounded athlete, the skill is there for him to be a plug-and-play contributor Day 1, especially in two-tight end sets.
With nearly the entire depth chart being overturned in Green Bay, Musgrave could find himself in a large role right off the bat should he land with the franchise.
As mentioned, the knee injury is something to monitor. In the two games he played, Musgrave ended up catching 11 passes for 169 yards and a touchdown. Last season, he racked up 22 receptions for 304 yards and a touchdown.

Musgrave stands in at 6-foot-6 and a shade over 250 pounds. He has great size and is athletic as well. What helps him stand out is his explosion in route-running to separate himself from opposing linebackers.
NFL.com has made an intriguing comparison for the young tight end. They have Philadelphia Eagles’ star tight end Dallas Goedert listed as the best possible comparison for Musgrave.
All of that being said, it will be interesting to see who the Packers end up having at tight end in 2023. Love needs a weapon and Musgrave could very well be just the guy. He’s a name to keep a close eye on as the NFL Draft draws closer.
