Green Bay Packers quarterback Jordan Love, and the man he’s replacing, Aaron Rodgers, will be among the most intriguing storylines in the NFL this season.
Both quarterbacks were named by the Athletic in the site’s article: “NFL’s most intriguing players: 23 to watch for the 2023 season.”
Love, who appeared in 10 games, starting one, while serving as a back-up to Rodgers for the last three seasons, will get the chance to take over at the helm of the team that drafted him in the first round in 2020. Rodgers, drafted in the first round in 2005 to back up Brett Favre for three years before replacing the legend as Packers’ starter, left the team after 15 seasons as QB1 and four MVP awards.
Jordan Love is the Heir Apparent in Green Bay
Love placed smack dab in the middle of the list, playing No. 12 on the Athletic’s list of 23.
The site explained why, saying
The Packers essentially picked Love over Rodgers this offseason, and now it’s up to the 2020 first rounder to prove Brian Gutekunst got it right. The NFC North is wide open. Can Green Bay contend right away while leaning on Love and his young receiving unit, or will this season feature some growing pains.
However, no one is more intriguing than Rodgers, who left the Packers for the Jets, clearing the way for Love to take over the starting job in Green Bay.
Aaron Rodgers Steps Onto World’s Biggest Stage
Rodgers finished atop the list of most intriguing players, taking the top spot with the following commentary:
It’s safe to say that no single player enters the season with expectations as high as those heaped on Rodgers by the Jets and their fans. They’re all thinking Super Bowl, even though this team as a whole is still young, and the offense will take some time to jell. Rodgers has practically walked on water during the “Hard Knocks” portrayals, and his cameo in the preseason finale proved promising. But does he truly still have the capability to carry a team at an elite level? And once the games really begin, will his offensive line hold up adequately?
The Athletic wasn’t the only outlet to speculate that Rodgers and Love will be among the biggest focal points of the upcoming season. The two quarterbacks topped NFL.com’s list of 10 fascinating storylines back when minicamps first opened. “Aaron’s acclimation” ranked No. 1 on the list, and “Green Bay redux” was right behind in second place.
