NFL news: The Jordan Love hype train is now in full throttle, especially after seeing how good the young quarterback has been in training camp for the Green Bay Packers thus far. At this point, a lot of fans are starting to believe that the 24-year-old is actually capable of filling the massive void that has been left by Aaron Rodgers’ departure to the New York Jets.
NFL News: Rival Coach on Jordan Love: ‘We Have No Idea What This Guy Is’
While more than a few Packers supporters have already bought their first-class ticket for the Jordan Love hype train, there are still a lot of folks out there who have reservations about the former Utah State standout.
One of them is Mike Sando of The Athletic, who recently came up with a comprehensive ranking of all 30 starting quarterbacks in the NFL this coming season. Love was part of Tier 4 — the lowest in Sando’s rankings — as he fell all the way to No. 26, ahead of just Baker Mayfield, Sam Howell, and Gardner Minshew.
An unnamed opposing coach then slapped the Packers with some harsh Jordan Love reality:
“We have no idea what this guy is,” an offensive coach said. “My initial read is that he doesn’t process the game well enough. I don’t see a natural, smooth, instinctive player, the way he reacts to the defense.”
A rival GM took it a step further as he raised some serious doubts as to whether or not Love will be able to fill the shoes Aaron Rodgers has left behind:
“You’ve got Jaire Alexander out there saying Love is the best QB in the league, but those are pretty big shoes to fill,” a GM said. “I haven’t seen enough to feel comfortable going into the season like they are, saying this is our guy. I would be a little hesitant if I were them to do that, but it is what it is. That is where they took him and where they are.”
Needless to say, these guys aren’t buying in on all the Love hype.
NFL News: Matt LaFleur Will Also Be Put to the Test
According to the experts, it’s not just Love who’s going to be put to the test. Now that Rodgers has moved on to greener pastures, Packers head coach Matt Lafleur will also be tested:
“We are going to see how good of a coach Matt LaFleur is, how good he was with game management on offense, how good he is in his 2-minute offense, because everyone who has any experience with Aaron Rodgers knows he was in charge of that,” an exec said.
That’s actually an excellent point. Rodgers has been Green Bay’s QB1 since LaFleur started his tenure as the team’s head coach four years ago. We are now set to find out how much of the Packers’ success was brought about by Rodgers’ generational talent and whether or not LaFleur can attain that same level of success — or at least come close to it — with Jordan Love now at center.
