Mason Crosby said recently that he wasn’t counting out a return to the Green Bay Packers this season. A recent update in the kicker free agency market Thursday might have made the chances for his return more plausible at this point in July.
“Weird stuff happens every year, and you never know. You never know what’s going to happen,” Crosby said in an interview with ESPN Wisconsin this week about his chances to return to the Packers.
NFL News: Green Bay Packers’ chances to sign Mason Crosby went up

A weird thing happened when the Dallas Cowboys, a team heavily linked to bringing in Crosby, signed kicker Brandon Aubrey. The Cowboys are choosing to bring in Aubrey, a kicker who performed well in the USFL, to participate in their kicking competition this fall.

That seems to cross the Cowboys off the list for Crosby. Crosby has been named as a possible option to kick for the Denver Broncos. There’s an outside shot the 38-year-old could join several of his former Green Bay teammates with the New York Jets.
The Cowboys news Thursday is a good sign for the Packers fans who would like to see Crosby return this season. The Packers have just one kicker on their roster heading into training camp, rookie Anders Carlson. For the right price, the Packers could bring Crosby to compete with Carlson for the kicking job this season.
