Earlier this week, it was reported that former Green Bay Packers players Sterling Sharpe and Cecil Isbell were among the 60 semi-finalists up for induction into the Pro Football Hall of Fame by the Senior Committee. Former Packers and Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Holmgren is also among the semi-finalists.
For many Packers fans, it has been a long forgone conclusion that Sharpe belongs in the Hall of Fame. Even his own brother, Hall of Fame tight end Shannon Sharpe, said in his own induction speech that he [Shannon] was not the best football player from his family.
It seems like Packers fans are always fighting to see players from their team that deserve the honor of the Hall of Fame to be inducted into it. Jerry Kramer was not inducted until 2018. LeRoy Butler did not get his well-deserved nod until last year.
Former Green Bay Packers Sterling Sharpe May Finally Get His Honor

The wait might soon be over for Sharpe and Packers fans. Part of the process is for the Senior Committee to trim the list of players and coaches/contributors down to 12 finalists each. From those two lists of 12 finalists, three players and one coach/contributor will be selected for induction.
Last year, Sharpe and Isbell were among the 12 finalists for players. Sharpe was confirmed to have been one of the final six players considered before they cut the list to three:
“Gradishar, Kuechenberg and Sharpe advanced through an initial cutdown vote from 12 candidates to six shortly before the final vote was taken. The firm EY administered the voting process.”
Chuck Howley, Joe Klecko, and Ken Riley were the players selected last year. This indicates that the committee could see Sharpe as deserving of induction this year.
If Sharpe is named as one of the three players left after the final vote, his name will go to the Hall of Fame’s full selection committee for consideration along with the 15 modern-era finalists. If he gets 80% approval from that committee, he will be inducted into the Hall of Fame.
Last year, all three players that the senior committee recommended were inducted.
2024 really could be the year we finally see Sterling Sharpe inducted into the Hall of Fame…
