Friday marked practice number four for the Green Bay Packers. Training camp has suddenly turned into a “wait and see when Jordan Love’s contract is signed so he can practice” waiting game.
While Love remains the center of attention, it was another starter today who made a bit of headlines after it was announced he would be missing practice.
The Green Bay Packers Have Starter Miss Practice For Personal Reasons
According to Tom Silverstein of The Milwaukee Journal Sentinel:
LaFleur said they will shuffle linemen all camp and not to read too much into certain positions. He said center Josh Myers won’t be at practice today because of a personal matter.
The Packers will be looking to establish their starting offensive line sooner rather than later. Protecting Jordan Love will be one of their top priorities going forward. The way it should be when you have a franchise quarterback under center.
It is often known in advance what position a player will play when a franchise drafts them in the first round; that is not the case with Morgan. His cross-training includes both tackle and guard positions. It is entirely possible that he will replace Rasheed Walker as the starting left tackle, but he could also fulfill whichever position is unoccupied by Elgton Jenkins and Zach Tom. Jenkins has previously played guard and right tackle. It would be possible for Tom to play either center or right tackle. Morgan is in a competition no doubt, but there are a lot of moving parts.
While the Packers may not have their best five identified, they’ve created enough competition to build a wall in front of Love.
