The Milwaukee Brewers have used the most starting pitchers of any team in the league this year. Of that group Wade Miley and Robert Gasser are done for the season, prospect Carlos Rodriguez was optioned back to Triple-A, and they released Dallas Keuchel after a brief tenure. They have until July 30 to acquire players via trade, but if they miss out on some of their targets the recently DFA’d Adrian Houser could be an option for them.
Adrian Houser was designated for assignment by the New York Mets.
Last off-season David Stearns, former executive for Milwaukee Brewers, brought Adrian Houser and Tyrone Taylor to the big apple in a trade involving prospect Coleman Crow. Things have not gone well for Houser in 2024 as through 23 games (seven starts) he has a 5.84 ERA. The Mets DFA’d him on Friday, July 26 and he now can be claimed by an organization or traded by the Mets.
What happens if Adrian Houser goes unclaimed and isn’t traded by the New York Mets?
There is a high probability that Adrian Houser could go unclaimed as well as not traded. Per MLB Trade Rumors he is owed approximately $1.7 million of his $5.05 million salary and an acquiring team would be on the hook for that. If he clears waivers and isn’t traded then he could become a free agent in which at that time he could be acquired for the league minimum.
Should the Milwaukee Brewers reunite with Adrian Houser?
Despite his struggles in 2024 Adrian Houser previously had success in a Brewers uniform. Across eight seasons with Milwaukee he had a 4.00 ERA and threw one complete game shutout. He is a ground ball inducer and could benefit from the Brew Crews defensively stout infield.
Once all the dust settlers it’s possible that Milwaukee could bring Adrian Houser back. If he clears waivers and isn’t traded the Brewers wouldn’t have to bring him back on a big league deal and they could stash him in the minor leagues for depth. It will be interesting to see if a reunion occurs or not.
