NFL News: The Green Bay Packers have numerous former players working for the NFL in a variety of ways.  Greg Jennings and James Jones are both well-known names throughout NFL media.  However, NFL media can be just as brutal as the league itself when it comes to keeping your job.  One former Green Bay Packers quarterback is looking for a new employer after ESPN informed him he is being let go.

ESPN is officially cleaned house, as reports Friday have indicated.  The well-known multimedia sports company is cutting costs by laying off waves of well-known TV personalities, including some who have established themselves as sports royalty.  Per the New York Post, former Green Bay Packers quarterback Matt Hasselbeck, who has served as one of ESPN’s NFL analysts since 2016, has been laid off.

Hasselbeck appeared on ESPN’s signature Sunday morning pregame show, Sunday NFL Countdown, and he contributed to Pro Bowl and Super Bowl coverage. He also served as an analyst on SportsCenter, ESPN Radio and NFL Live – at times alongside his younger brother Tim, also a former NFL quarterback, who has been an ESPN analyst since 2008. The Hasselbeck brothers have teamed up in the booth as well for Thursday night college football, beginning in 2017.

Earlier in his ESPN career, Hasselbeck was a member of the Monday Night Countdown crew (2016-2018), and he called ESPN’s Thursday night college football slate with Pat McAfee, Adam Amin, and Molly McGrath (2019). He also served as game analyst for the NFL Pro Bowl telecast in 2018.

Matt Hasselbeck spent two seasons behind Brett Favre when he joined the NFL.  He was eventually traded to the Seattle Seahawks and Mike Holmgren, the coach who helped draft him for the Packers in the sixth round.   The Packers received the Seahawks’ first-round selection, the 10th pick overall, and their third-round selection, the 72nd pick. Seattle also received the Packers’ first-round choice, which is No. 17 overall.

Former Green Bay Packers quarterback Matt Hasselbeck has been laid off by ESPN, marking the end of his tenure as an NFL analyst. For more updates on the Packers and their quarterback history, visit our Green Bay Packers News section.

The Packers turned their picks into a pair of all time NFL busts, while Seattle got a 12 year starter at guard who was Pro Bowl and All Pro each in 3 of those 12 seasons.
