The Chicago Bears fans are unhappy with media personality Colin Cowherd’s claim that Quarterback Justin Fields “is a bust right now.”
Cowherd said the following.
“I said earlier this week I think all of the quarterbacks in the NFL who have the most pressure, it’s not on Dak (Prescott). It’s on Justin Fields he’s 5-20 in 25 starts.”
His full take can be seen in the Tweet below:
Colin Cowherd on Justin Fields 🗣️
“Right now Justin Fields is a bust. He’s 5-20, 10 game losing streak, passer rating in the 70s … Right now he is a Youtube QB, his highlights are great.”

That’s an interesting take, the Dallas Cowboys haven’t made an NFC Championship Game since 1993, and Dak Prescott hasn’t won a big game yet in his Cowboys career. Yet, according to Cowherd, Prescott has less pressure to win than Justin Fields who’s still getting his feet wet in the NFL and is on a rebuilding team.
Cowherd went on to say his critique of Fields:
“This isn’t the end of the world, but I don’t love it it’s five percent (Cowherd referenced he believed at Fields as a quarterback at 60/40 now he’s pulling back to 55/45). For a quarterback that’s 5-20 and right now is closer to a bust than a star.”
Cowherd also said Fields is a “Youtube quarterback,” which is a ridiculous criticism because don’t you want to see exciting players make exciting plays?
Why Chicago Bears Quarterback Justin Fields isn’t a bust right now

How can you label a guy a bust after one and a half years of starting? The Bears traded up to get Fields in the 2021 NFL Draft because they had been searching for a franchise quarterback. Based on his productive college career at Ohio State, Fields fit that mold and probably should have gotten drafted sooner.
So far, it’s been a steep learning curve. It was expected for Fields to struggle in the NFL to start because of the lack of talent on the Bears roster, and going from throwing to five-star recruits every Saturday to a team where you don’t have that it’s an adjustment period for young players.
Fields got drafted into a bad situation in Chicago, expected to be the guy. He did show promise on a bad team in his rookie season, however. In Fields’ first full year as a starter, he threw for 2,242 yards, 17 touchdowns, 11 interceptions, and a passer rating of 85.2.
Fields also got sacked 55 times (tied for the most in the NFL). Chicago gave him no tools to succeed last season. Cowherd based that whole argument on Fields only being 5-20 in his games as a starter. Not once did he bring up the Bears rebuilding last season or that Fields had to run for 1,143 yards because the offensive line was terrible.
For young quarterbacks to succeed in the NFL, teams have to put pieces around them. The Bears did that this offseason by trading the number one overall pick to the Carolina Panthers for wide receiver DJ Moore.
This will be another long season in Chicago, but the goal should be does Justin Fields take another step in his development? Can he become a better thrower of the football? The last and most important question to be answered is whether he can help the Bears increase their win total from three to five or six because if he can do that, it’ll be a successful season in Chicago.
