The Green Bay Packers are bringing back a former draft pick to the practice squad Friday. The Packers took a hard look at their trenches and decided to release a center in favor of a defensive tackle. The Packers announced the two roster moves ahead of the holiday weekend.

According to a statement by the Packers, the team is signing 2022 seventh-round pick Jonathan Ford to the practice squad. They are releasing center James Empey.

    Per the statement:

“The Green Bay Packers signed DL Jonathan Ford to the practice squad and released C James Empey (emp-ee) from the practice squad…

Ford was on the Packers active roster for all 17 games as a rookie in 2022.”

Ford played college football for the Miami Hurricanes. Ford made the 53-man roster before the regular season. He was inactive for the season and did not record a stat in 2022. The Packers released Ford following training camp on August 30th.

Empey, a rookie UDFA from BYU, was claimed off waivers by the Packers on July 31.
