For the amount of stability the Green Bay Packers have had at positions like quarterback and running back, there has been just as much instability at the tight end position. The team has gone the route of adding veterans like Jimmy Graham, Martellus Bennett and Jared Cook. They have invested some late draft capital into the position as well. However, none of that has brought much production to the position. Brian Gutekunst hoped to change that by drafting Luke Musgrave and Tucker Kraft early in this year’s draft. While he needs to perform on Sundays, the buzz surrounding Luke Musgrave has been encouraging. Dallin Leavitt compared Musgrave to the likes of Travis Kelce and Darren Waller.
Dallin Leavitt compares Green Bay Packers tight end to elite talents
Dallin Leavitt has become one of the best special teams players on the Green Bay Packers. However, before he was a Packer he spent four years in the AFC West as a teammate of Darren Waller. He also got to see Travis Kelce of the Kansas City Chiefs twice a year. Needless to say, he has seen what an elite tight end looks like. In an interview with Rob Demovsky, he shared who he thinks Luke Musgrave reminds him of.
“I think Darren Waller is another level of it because Darren is almost like an X receiver. I played a long time with Darren. In regards to speed and feeling that on the over route, yeah, I think [Musgrave’s] got that, but honestly, I would say he’s closer to Kelce than he is Darren, body type and all that.”

Being compared to Travis Kelce might be the highest praise a young tight end can receive. Every team hopes they can find the level of production that Travis Kelce brings to the Chiefs from their own tight end. However, Kelce is one of a kind and there are not many players that can be compared to him. For Musgrave to have the same athletic ability as Kelce in the eyes of Leavitt says a lot about what the Green Bay Packers are getting.
“He’s a special talent. He’s got more wiggle than people give him credit for and obviously everybody talks about his speed, but I think he does a good job making contested catches as well.”
