NFL: The Green Bay Packers preseason has come to an end, and for the first time head coach Matt LaFleur saw his team finish with a winning record prior to the regular season. More importantly, the Packers saw plenty of excellent playmaking from players fighting for a roster spot. Unfortunately, not everyone can make.
Coach LaFleur stated that he does not anticipate any roster moves occurring before Tuesday, which is the deadline for all NFL teams to trim their rosters to 53. Some of the players that do not make it will be signed to the practice squad. Others may be signed to other teams’ practice squads. Still others may not play organized football again.
Tuesday is a day that will literally change lives, one way or another. While there are several roster locks, there are others that up in the air.
2023 Green Bay Packers 53-Man Roster Prediction (NFL)

What is going to follow as the Packers 53-man roster prediction is just that: a prediction. There are numerous theories of what positions should carry more players and which may not need as many. Also, just because a player is left off the 53-man roster initially and signed to the practice squad does not mean they can’t be added to it later.
As injuries happen, the roster becomes somewhat of an organic thing which players going on and off of it throughout the year.
With that being said, he are the 53 players the Packers [might] break camp with.
Quarterbacks (2)
- Jordan Love
- Sean Clifford
No debate here. LaFleur already named Clifford thLukee backup quarterback. USFL MVP Alex McGough may be signed to the practice squad.
Running Backs (3)
- Aaron Jones
- AJ Dillon
- Patrick Taylor
Emanuel Wilson was one of the darlings of the preseason for his monster games against the Cincinnati Bengals and New England Patriots. He had a dud of a game against the Seahawks, though, and LaFleur stated that he needs improvement in several facets of his game (blocking, conditioning, and special teams).
Wide Receivers (6)
- Christian Watson
- Romeo Doubs
- Samori Toure
- Jayden Reed
- Dontayvion Wicks
- Malik Heath
Grant DuBose just could not get healthy or stay healthy long enough to make much of an impression. Heath, the undrafted free agent who has been turning heads all summer, will take that last spot. LaFleur also complimented his blocking in a recent press conference, all but guaranteeing that Heath did all the little things right, all the things a fringe roster player needs to do.
Tight Ends (4)
- Luke Musgrave
- Tucker Kraft
- Josiah Deguara
- Austin Allen
The season-ending injury Tyler Davis changed a lot of things, notably on special teams. However, it has also provided Austin Allen with a chance to make the roster, and he played well on Saturday against the Seahawks. Deguara is not a typical tight end, but will be used as a full back.
Offensive Linemen (9)
- David Bakhtiari
- Elgton Jenkins
- Zach Tom
- Jon Runyan Jr.
- Rasheed Walker
- Josh Myers
- Yosh Nijman
- Sean Rhyan
- Caleb Jones
The Royce Newman experiment is over. Rasheed Walker may be David Bakhtiari’s replacement at left tackle should the team choose to part ways with him after the 2023 season.
Defensive Linemen (5)
- Kenny Clark
- TJ Slaton
- Devonte Wyatt
- Karl Brooks
- Colby Wooden
Jonathan Ford was terrible in preseason and did not suit up for any games last year after being kept on the 53-man roster as a seventh round pick. His time in Green Bay is probably over, unless he signs on the practice squad.
Edge Rushers (6)
- Rashan Gary
- Preston Smith
- Lukas Van Ness
- Justin Hollins
- Kingsley Enagbare
- Brenton Cox
Cox, the undrafted free agent who was kicked out of two SEC programs, displayed the talent that made him a project early round draft pick. If he keeps his head on straight, he could be an absolute steal.
Linebackers (4)
- De’Vondre Campbell
- Quay Walker
- Eric Wilson
- Arron Mosby
At this point Isaiah McDuffie is what he is; I think the Packers go in a different direction.
Cornerbacks (5)
- Jaire Alexander
- Rasul Douglas
- Keisean Nixon
- Carrington Valentine
- Corey Ballentine
Eric Stokes will begin the season on the PUP. Ballentine gets a few more weeks. Shemar Jean-Charles is out.
Safeties (6)
- Darnell Savage
- Rudy Ford
- Jonathan Owens
- Tarvarius Moore
- Dallin Leavitt
- Anthony Johnson Jr.
Yikes.
Specialists (3)
- Anders Carlson- kicker
- Pat O’Donnell- punter/hiolder
- Matt Orzerch- long snapper
No, no Mason Crosby.
