The Packers beat the Bears on Sunday night…again. Aaron Rodgers is 23-5 against the Bears in his career. Brett Favre was 22-10 against the hated rivals. The victories also haven’t been close. A lot of the games, especially the ones in primetime, have been blowouts. The most memorable for Packers fans was the 6 touchdowns in the first half performance. One NFL analyst is done seeing this matchup. On Good Morning Football, NFL analyst Kyle Brandt expressed that he doesn’t want to see Packers-Bears in primetime anymore.

The NFL’s oldest rivalry combined with the star power of the Packers and Bears over the years means the NFL often puts one of the two matchups in primetime. Kyle Brandt has had enough. In a segment on Good Morning Football, he talked about how he is tired of seeing these lopsided blowouts. The games aren’t close because the Packers have been such a superior team. While Packers fans will watch happily every blowout in its entirety, the neutral fan may not. Kyle Brandt does not want to see anymore of Packers-Bears in primetime.
Will We See Less Packers-Bears Primetime?
NFL Network is owned by the league so it is interesting that Brandt is so vocally against Packers-Bears in primetime. With the recent history, the question becomes could this become a matchup that the NFL chooses to take out of the primetime slot? Honestly I don’t think so. The NFL loves to promote the rivalries. Cowboys-Giants, Steelers-Ravens and Packers-Bears always seem to make it into a primetime slot regardless of the records of those teams. I see the NFL continuing to promote these rivalries unless something drastic happens with the ratings.
I get the sentiment of Kyle Brandt’s comments. As a fan, I don’t like to watch blowouts. I tend to tune out games where one team is dominating another. However, I don’t see the NFL getting away from their oldest rivalry. The Packers are one of the most popular teams nationally and internationally. The NFL will want to keep them in primetime.
