New York Jets QB Aaron Rodgers Expected To Target Green Bay Packers 26-Year-Old Starter (Report)

Aaron Rodgers, the New York Jets, and the Green Bay Packers will have an interesting off-season coming up.  For the second straight time, the Jets will reportedly be interested in multiple current or former Packers players.  We saw the Jets add numerous players and coaching during the 2023 off-season, however, 2024 could include some well known names that the Packers aren’t necessarily ready to move on from.

According to New York Jets Insider Paul Esden Jr:

Rich Cimini of ESPN listed several players that are worth watching as potential NEW Aaron Rodgers recruits to the Jets in 2024:

    • #Raiders WR Davante Adams
    • #Packers OT David Bakhtiari
    • #Packers RB Aaron Jones
    • #Packers RB AJ Dillon
    • #Packers G Jon Runyan
    • #Bears TE Robert Tonyan

Initially, every rookie in the NFL is looking forward to finding their place on the team. Having accomplished that, the next step is earning that second contract. In the 2020 Draft, the Green Bay Packers found some good future franchise players. One of them has already been extended. Five more will vie for the second contract in 2023. Among them is offensive lineman Jon Runyan Jr.

As a 6th round draft pick in the 2020 NFL Draft, Runyan has been a solid member of the Packers offensive line. He logged the most snaps on the offensive line for a non-starter in his rookie season. Since 2021, he has held down the starting spot on the line as a swingman.

As a starter in 2022, Runyan allowed jsut 1.5 sacks all season. He was also flagged only once.  In the last two seasons, he has also been great at springing running backs free en route to an average of 2K yards rushing. This is an impressive pick for a 6th rounder.  The Jets’ offensive line has ben atrocious all season long.  Getting players like Runyan that Aaron Rodgers trusts will be a priority for their team.

If the Packers decide to move on from Runyan, or the Jets offer him more money, it wouldn’t be surprising at all to see him suit up in a different shade of green.
