NBA rumors: The Detroit Pistons could be a team to watch this coming season. They’re not exactly going to be a title contender, but with the slew of young talents they have on their roster, this team could be a real problem for the Milwaukee Bucks and the rest of the Central Division in the coming years.
At this point, however, it appears that the Pistons could be looking to add more future assets as they continue to engage with opposing teams on a potential trade for veteran sharpshooter Bojan Bogdanovic.
NBA Rumors: Mavs, Pistons In Trade Talks For Bojan Bogdanovic

Mandatory Credit: Jerome Miron-USA TODAY Sports (NBA Rumors)Bogdanovic is without a doubt one of the best players on Detroit’s roster, but the 34-year-old clearly does not fall within the team’s current timeline. He also has two more years remaining on his current contract, which is probably why the Pistons are now looking to trade him now while they still can.
The Dallas Mavericks are reportedly one team that has shown significant interest in a potential swoop for Bogdanovic. The Mavs tried to make their move for the 6-foot-7 forward prior to last season’s trade deadline, but that obviously did not come to fruition. Right now, Dallas has reportedly renewed its interest in the Bosnia and Herzegovina native. This report comes via NBA insider Tim Cato of The Athletic:
“Late last week, multiple league sources said that the Mavericks and the Detroit Pistons renewed conversations about a Bojan Bogdanović trade. Dallas had previously considered trading for Bogdanović at last season’s deadline, but Detroit’s asking price of a first-round pick was considered too high for the Dallas front office,” Cato wrote.
The report also indicates that “talks were sturdy enough” surrounding a deal that would send Bogdanovic and Killian Hayes to Dallas, with Tim Hardaway Jr. and JaVale McGee heading in the opposite direction. For reasons unknown, however, those trade talks have “stalled.”
NBA Rumors: How Will Pistons Fare In Central Division?

Losing Bogdanovic and his 21.6 points per game will be a huge blow for the Pistons. While they will likely get a couple of players in return in a potential trade deal, there’s no denying that Bogdanovic will leave a significant void if and when he leaves.
Then again, this could be Detroit’s plan all along. They added even more young talent this summer, and perhaps they want to give their kids more opportunities this coming season. The Pistons are not expected to be a problem for the Bucks in the Central Division in 2023-24, but things could change significantly in the coming years.
