NBA rumors: There are still a lot of players available in NBA free agency at the moment, but only few of them are at the same level as Christian Wood — at least in terms of being a high-profile name. The former Milwaukee Bucks big man has already been linked to a handful of teams throughout the summer, but at this point, nothing has really materialized for the 27-year-old.
NBA Rumors: Heat Not Seen as Viable Trade Partner for Christian Wood
At this point, the Dallas Mavericks are reportedly open to facilitating a sign-and-trade deal for Christian Wood. One of the teams that has been identified as a potential landing spot for the 6-foot-10 big man is the Miami Heat. However, NBA insider Marc Stein is now reporting that the Heat are not “believed to be viable partners in that scenario (h/t Hoops Rumors).”
It’s possible that Miami still adds Wood this summer, but it appears that the only way this is going to happen is if they sign him as a free agent. They’re clearly focused on the Damian Lillard blockbuster trade, and they do not seem inclined to giving up any more assets in a separate deal, particularly in one that involves Christian Wood.
NBA Rumors: Lakers Still Eyeing Christian Wood
Apart from Miami, the Los Angeles Lakers is another team that has been linked to a potential move on Wood. However, as Stein also reports, LA is only able to bring in the former Bucks center on a veteran’s minimum deal. The Lakers already gave up a huge chunk of their non-taxpayer mid-level exception when they signed Gabe Vincent from the Heat, leaving them with very little option on the Christian Wood front.
At this point, there is no clarity yet on Wood’s NBA future. I guess the silver lining for him is that there appears to still be a lot of interest in him around the league. It’s now just a matter of finding the right deal.
