NBA rumors: The Dallas Mavericks appear to be in the market for a new point guard who will play behind their superstar duo of Luka Doncic and Kyrie Irving. According to reports, they have been keeping tabs on the Detroit Pistons’ former No. 7 overall pick, Killian Hayes.
NBA Rumors: Mavs Engaged in Trade Talks With Pistons for Killian Hayes
According to league insider Marc Stein, the Mavs and the Pistons were engaged in trade talks for the 21-year-old guard. Dallas reportedly “offered a former first-round pick in a potential deal that didn’t go anywhere.”
Stein also reports that trade talks “were sparked by the Pistons’ determination to ease a backcourt logjam by trading Killian Hayes,” but at the same time, a potential deal “gained little traction.”
It is unclear what caused the deal to break down, but at this point, it doesn’t sound like this trade is going to come to fruition.
Last season, Hayes averaged 10.3 points on 37.7 percent shooting, 2.9 rebounds, 6.2 assists, and 1.4 steals, while also knocking down 1.1 triples per game.
NBA Rumors: Do Bucks Need Backup Point Guard?
Would Killian Hayes be a good fit for the Milwaukee Bucks? Well, he wouldn’t be a bad option at all as a backup for Jrue Holiday. He would certainly be an upgrade to AJ Green, who recently signed a three-year deal with Milwaukee.
However, given Hayes’ potential, the Pistons have placed a high price tag on the young PG. The Bucks don’t have too many assets available at their disposal so it doesn’t sound like they will be in the race should Detroit actually place Hayes on the trade block.
It also wouldn’t be surprising if the Pistons opt to send Hayes to the West as opposed to trading him to the Bucks, who happen to be their Central Division rivals.
