The Milwaukee Bucks have a pretty solid group heading into the new season. After all, this is the same core that led them to a championship a couple of years ago. However, if the front office wants to shake things up during the season then they might want to look in the direction of the Los Angeles Lakers in terms of striking a blockbuster trade.
NBA Rumors: Bucks Get New-Look Backcourt in Massive Trade With Lakers

Lee Tran of Fadeaway World has proposed an intriguing trade scenario between the Bucks and the Lakers. Both teams will need to give up massive assets in this deal, but both sides could potentially benefit significantly in the said trade.
Here are the details of the proposal:
Los Angeles Lakers Receive: Bobby Portis, Grayson Allen
Milwaukee Bucks Receive: D’Angelo Russell, Jarred Vanderbilt, 2024 Second-Round Pick (LAC), 2025 Second-Round Pick (LAC), 2025 Second-Round Pick (LAL)
D’Angelo Russell is the big prize for the Bucks in this deal, and while Milwaukee will need to wait a couple of months before the former All-Star is eligible for a trade (Russell signed an extension this summer), this could give Milwaukee enough time to assess their needs.
“The Milwaukee Bucks are a team that could potentially use D’Angelo Russell and are one of the few teams that can potentially withstand his poor defense. He would give the team consistent shooting and scoring, and his playmaking ability could potentially get Giannis Antetokounmpo more easy buckets. The team also needs injury insurance, as Khris Middleton has shown to be injury-prone in recent years. D’Angelo Russell could clearly be a valuable regular-season player for the team, and he is definitely an upgrade on Grayson Allen on the offensive end,” Tran wrote.
Losing Bobby Portis would be a tough blow for the Bucks, but they do get Jarred Vanderbilt in the deal as well. He could emerge as a younger version of Portis, especially in terms of what he brings to the table defensively. The three second-round picks obviously make this deal a whole lot sweeter for the Bucks.
NBA Rumors: Bucks Send Bobby Portis to Lakers in Bold Trade Proposal
At this point, the Los Angeles Lakers are all about surrounding LeBron James and Anthony Davis with as many win-now pieces as they can. While D’Angelo Russell (and to some extent, Jarred Vanderbilt) does satisfy that requirement, you could argue that the addition of Bobby Portis to LA’s frontcourt is a more significant step in the right direction for the Lakers.
Portis, who played a key role in Milwaukee’s 2021 title run, would likely get the start alongside Davis, giving the Lakers a more experienced and battle-tested veteran in the frontcourt. Last season, the 6-foot-10 big man averaged 14.1 points on 49.6 percent shooting, with 9.6 rebounds and 1.5 assists. Portis also knocked down 1.4 triples per game on a respectable 37.0 percent clip, also making him an outside threat for the Lakers.
Grayson Allen wouldn’t be a bad addition for LA as well. He’s a significant upgrade from Russell on the defensive end, and he could either serve as a spark off the bench or even as a potential starter alongside Austin Reaves.
The Lakers give up a lot in this high-risk trade, but the reward could be all worth it.
