According to NBA rumors, James Harden is on the brink of a move away from the Philadelphia 76ers. Multiple reports indicate that the only reason the ex-NBA MVP picked up his player option for 2023-24 is for him to facilitate his Philly exit.
However, it’s not James Harden who’s the center of ESPN insider Brian Windhorst’s latest truth bomb. According to the renowned NBA guru, there is one particular player on the 76ers roster that the organization considers “untouchable” — and it’s not even Joel Embiid.
Giannis Antetokounmpo, LeBron James Catch Strays In Brian Windhorst’s Latest Trade Update
To be clear, Windhorst did not say that Embiid is available. However, in a recent episode of his own podcast, the ESPN broadcaster made it abundantly clear that the Sixers are completely adamant about NOT wanting to trade Tyrese Maxey. To make his point, Windy even had to drag Milwaukee Bucks superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo in his statement, along with LeBron James and the great Michael Jordan:
“[The 76ers] want you to know that you can’t have Tyrese Maxey,” Windhorst said on the Hoop Collective podcast (h/t Christian Grantham of Basketball Forever). “Prime Michael Jordan is available? Don’t call. 25-year-old LeBron James is available? Lose our number. Giannis Antetokounmpo says, ‘I want to be a Sixer,’ if Tyrese Maxey is the ask, just keep walking. Tyrese Maxey, I have been assured, will not be traded.”
Simply put, there’s just no way the Sixers are going to part ways with Maxey.
Windy then turned his attention to Philly’s supposed pursuit of Damian Lillard, who himself declared his desire to leave the Portland Trail Blazers. According to Windhorst, the reason why the Sixers and the Blazers have not agreed on a potential blockbuster trade centered around Dame and Harden is because of Tyrese Maxey:
“Of the available pieces that you see on the board that could be offered for Dame Lillard, I think (Tyrese) Maxey is the prime piece,” Windhorst said. “And again, if Philadelphia was making that offer, Dame Lillard might be in Philly right now. But they are not. They are pulling back from that.”
Sixers See Tyrese Maxey As Their Cornerstone Superstar Of The Future
The Sixers are clearly invested in Maxey, and they seem intent on doing everything they can to make sure that he remains in Philly for the long haul. Joel Embiid, who in case you forgot is still the reigning league MVP, will be 30 this coming season, and obviously, he won’t be around forever. It appears that the 76ers already have one eye on their post-Embiid era, and there’s no denying that they already know who’s going to lead the charge for them. This honor belongs to Tyrese Maxey — Philadelphia’s future cornerstone superstar and heir apparent.

Duh. He’s EASILY the most talented player on the roster. Embiid is the most overrated player in the league, an unathletic big many who offers just a single skill. Harden is, along with Westbrook, a stat hound who can’t play D and who hurts his teams chances to win because he’s not a leader and would rather party.
That said, Giannis would be enough of a chip for Maxey either way.
