The Milwaukee Bucks have one spot remaining on their 15-man roster. They also have one glaring need on their roster: a true backup point guard behind Jrue Holiday. Jevon Carter, who had that role last season, signed as a free agent with the Chicago Bulls. Goran Dragic, who was acquired midseason, is still a free agent.
According to Michael Scotto of HoopsHype, the Bucks have shown some interest in former Brooklyn Nets point guard Edmond Sumner. The Charlotte Hornets, Toronto Raptors, Bulls, and Phoenix Suns have also expressed interest in the 6’4″ point guard.
How Edmund Sumner Would Fit with the Milwaukee Bucks
Obviously, Sumner would likely become an instant part of the Bucks’ rotation due to the fact he would be the only other true point guard on the roster.
Sumner’s first four NBA seasons were spent with the Indiana Pacers, where he averaged 5.7 points and shot 33% from three in a reserve role. He unfortunately missed the entire 2021-22 season with a torn Achilles.
However, he came back strong last season with the Nets, averaging 7.1 points while shooting 35.6% from three.
Thanasis Antetokounmpo Will Likely Get the Final Milwaukee Bucks Roster Spot
In the same report in which he mentions the Bucks’ interest in Sumner, Scotto also reports that Milwaukee’s final roster spot will likely be taken by Thanasis Antetokounmpo. Of course, the older brother Giannis has been on the Bucks’ roster for the past four seasons.
Instead of signing a true point guard to backup Holiday, general manager Jon Horst expressed faith in other players such as Giannis Antetokounmpo, Khris Middleton, and even rookie Andre Jackson Jr. as good facilitators on offense.
