NBA news: There’s no denying that Giannis Antetokounmpo is one of, if not the most dominant player in the league today. He has quite a supporting cast as well — one that has already helped Giannis lead the Milwaukee Bucks to an NBA championship a couple of years ago.
At this point, however, Milwaukee’s Giannis-led Big 3 is getting slept on a bit, and there appears to be one compelling reason as to why this is the case.
NBA News: Bucks’ Big 3 Barely Make NBA’s Top Trios List
Bleacher Report’s Greg Swartz recently listed a collection of the league’s top Big 3’s. The Bucks’ Giannis Antetokounpmo-Jrue Holiday-Khris Middleton trio was, of course, part of the list. However, they barely made the cut.
Milwaukee’s trio was considered nothing more than an honorable mention on the elite list, which incidentally, ranked the Denver Nuggets’ Nikola Jokic, Jamal Murray, and Aaron Gordon combination as the top Big 3 in the NBA today. You can’t really question that decision because of the fact that the Nuggets are coming off a championship.
For the Bucks, though, the chink in their armor appears to come on the Khris Middleton front:
“The Bucks have to hope last season was a fluke from Middleton, who battled injuries while only averaging 15.1 points with an effective field-goal percentage of 49.9 percent. Giving the soon-to-be 32-year-old a three-year, $93 million contract that can top $100 million with incentives shows Milwaukee believes he can still be an All-Star caliber player,” Swartz wrote.
NBA News: Khris Middleton Is Odd Man Out
You have to note that when Swartz listed the top superstar duos in the league, the Giannis and Holiday partnership ranked No. 2. However, the addition of Middleton as a Big 3 actually pulled down the group’s ranking.
As Swartz said, Middleton’s injury-riddled 2022-23 campaign is the main factor why there has been a loss of confidence in his ability to be an elite NBA swingman. The good news is that the three-time All-Star appears to be in good health entering the new season. Middleton will have a point to prove in the upcoming campaign and he will likely be playing with a chip on his shoulder. Don’t sleep on Khris Middleton.
