NBA news: It was mission accomplished for Team USA on Monday night as they played their first competitive game ahead of the upcoming FIBA World Cup. The national squad went up against Puerto Rico, and to nobody’s surprise, the Americans ended up blowing out their opponents, 117-74.
NBA News: Bobby Portis Shines as Team USA Destroys Puerto Rico
Milwaukee Bucks stud Bobby Portis is by no means the biggest star on the roster. In fact, the 28-year-old is one of the lower profile members in a squad that is headlined by the likes of Anthony Edwards, Jaren Jackson Jr., Austin Reaves, and Tyrese Haliburton, to name a few.
Nevertheless, Portis did more than hold his own on Monday night. The Bucks big man logged just 13 minutes off the bench in this one, but he made sure to make the most out of his limited time on the floor. Portis finished with 11 points on 4-of-6 shooting, along with three rebounds, one steal, a block, and a eye-opening +23 +/- rating while he was on the court. Portis came up big for Team USA in this one, which just goes to show the key role he will play on the squad in the FIBA World Cup.
Anthony Edwards led the way for the Americans in their lopsided win, finishing with 15 points. Cam Johnson also dropped 15 to join Edwards for team-high scoring honors. Jalen Brunson logged an 11-point, 12-rebound double-double, while Tyrese Haliburton dropped 12 dimes in the impressive victory.
NBA News: Bobby Portis Relishing Team USA Experience
In a recent interview, Portis shared just how much this Team USA stint means for him. He’s been dreaming of representing the nation for quite some time now, and he’s definitely relishing the “crazy” opportunity now that iot’s in front of him.

Be that as it may, Portis isn’t just there for a free ride. He proved that on Monday night, and it seems like he’s going to be an integral piece for the squad and their quest for a gold medal.
