The Nathaniel Hackett head coach experiment in Denver only lasted 15 games. After a 4-11 start to the season, the Broncos decided they saw enough and parted ways with the former Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator.
Expectations were a ‘mile high’ in Denver before the 2022 regular season kicked off. When Super Bowl odds were released in Week 1, the Broncos were listed as the eighth most likely team to win the Lombardi Trophy, sandwiched between the San Francisco 49ers and the Philadelphia Eagles.
After a failed season, the Broncos are searching for answers heading into 2023, and Hackett is searching for a new job.
Nathaniel Hackett Interviewed By New York Jets
The New York Jets have reportedly interviewed Nathaniel Hackett for their offensive coordinator position. New York fired their former OC Mike LaFleur last week.
Despite Hackett not being able to ‘hack it’ as a head coach, he still has plenty of experience as an offensive coordinator. He spent eight seasons in the NFL as an OC with the Packers, Jaguars, and Bills. His most successful stint was in Green Bay, as he experienced three straight 13-win seasons, which ultimately led to him landing the Broncos job.
Current Jets head coach Robert Saleh overlapped with Hackett in 2016 while they were both members of the Jaguars’ coaching staff. Hackett was the quarterback’s coach and Saleh was the linebacker’s coach. Jacksonville went 3-13 that season.
If the Jets hired Hackett for the OC job, would that help lure a certain veteran quarterback? Maybe Aaron Rodgers? It’s a long shot, but the two do have a history. Some believed that Hackett was hired by the Broncos to help lure Rodgers in 2022, although that never panned out.
Nevertheless, it would be interesting to see Rodgers and Hackett team up once again in 2023.
