The San Diego Padres are continuing to shake things up on their roster. In early July the DFA’d Nelson Cruz. Now post All-Star break they have elected to remove another veteran from their roster. This time it is a left-handed power hitter Rougned Odor.
MLB News: Rougned Odor has been DFA’d by the San Diego Padres.
Rougned Odor, a 10 year veteran who is just 29 years old, is hitting just .210/.306/.370 in 157 trips to the plate this season. He has not provided the production needed off the bench for the Padres and they are now going to shake things up on their roster.
It seems likely that Odor will gain trade interest over the next week. If he clears waivers he has the ability to refuse an outright assignment. Odds are he will be looking to join an organization that will give him an opportunity in the big leagues this season.
Since the shortened 2020 season, Odor has struggled to find footing in the league. Prior to that year he had hit at least 30 home runs in three out of the four previous seasons and maxed out at 93 RBI. His batting average and on-base percentage have never been great, but when right he can hit for power.
It will be interesting to see which team, if any, takes a flier on Rougned Odor for the remainder of the 2023 season.
