The Wisconsin football recruiting staff has quickly gotten into contact with a recruit who previously neared a commitment with the Badgers.
Drayden Pavey, a massive 6-foot-3-inch, 310-pound defensive lineman previously decided between Purdue and Wisconsin. After Pavey committed to Purdue, there were concerns he would exit his commitment with the program should the team struggle. With just that happening this year, Pavey announced his decommitment from the Purdue Boilermakers football program today.
Shortly after announcing his decommitment, the Wisconsin football recruiting staff reached out to Pavey to ignite the relationship once again. Pavey had stayed in contact with various programs following his commitment to Purdue, but none of the contact was anything major.
However, all of those teams are certainly going to push hard once again with the new bit of news surrounding Pavey. The defensive lineman stated in his message he would “fully open” his recruitment again, but it might close sooner than many analysts predict.

The Wisconsin football program was previously a major player for Pavey due to the development the team is shooting for along the defensive line. Pavey wants to reach the NFL level, like many other collegiate recruits, but wants to become the best player he can along the way. With the terrible play on defense from the Boilermakers this season, Pavey realized that Purdue cannot help him achieve his own personal goals.
Wisconsin is currently the favorite to land Pavey following his decommitment, and the news could likely come very soon. Pavey previously stated that he wanted to have a commitment set before his senior season, which he did. However, with the decommitment occurring, Pavey could try to secure his next commitment quickly to take the weight off his shoulders.
What Could Drayden Pavey Offer the Wisconsin Football Team?
While Pavey is not officially ready to commit to the Wisconsin football program, his commitment seems like a sure-thing and could add plenty to the defense.
Pavey is close to defensive lineman Elijah Hills on the Wisconsin defense currently due to their structures. Both players play similar styles of football and each have massive frames that allow for plenty of destruction on defense. Pavey is a brute, and with nearly 310-pounds of weight to back him up, it has been hard for opposing offensive lines to stop the recruit.
Outside of his pure strength, Pavey is also extremely quick for someone over 300-pounds and catches many offenses by surprise. It takes a unique skillset and type of player to stop Pavey due to his versatility, which often throws the opposing team off.
With the different looks Pavey can provide along with his high-motor play, the Wisconsin football staff has Pavey on the list of “must have” recruits.
