The Milwaukee Brewers will have more than one All-Star for the fifth-consecutive season (no All-Star Game in 2020). Corbin Burnes was selected to the National League squad because Spencer Strider of the Atlanta Braves will not pitch after starting on Saturday. It is the third-consecutive All-Star appearance for Burnes.
Corbin Burnes has been named as the All-Star Game replacement for Spencer Strider. This is his third straight ASG honor.

The Brewers announced the selection during the team’s 8-5 loss against the Cincinnati Reds on Saturday afternoon.
Is Milwaukee Brewers Starter Corbin Burnes Deserving of an All-Star Nod?

It is no secret that Burnes of 2023 is not pitching like the Burnes of 2020-22. However, he has won his last two starts in impressive fashion. On the season, he is 7-5 with a 3.94 ERA, 1.14 WHIP, and 102 strikeouts.
To be fully transparent, when I began writing this I did so questioning whether Burnes’ numbers are worthy of an All-Star selection. However, he is what I found out:
- His 3.94 ERA is 17th in the National League; Spencer Strider, the pitcher he is replacing, is 16th with a 3.66 ERA
- Burnes’ 102 strikeouts are more than 2023 All-Stars Marcus Stroman, Alex Cobb, and Justin Steele
- His 11 quality starts on the year are tied for third in the National League
- Burnes’ 1.14 WHIP is the eighth-best in the National League
Therefore, while his numbers are not what Brewers fans have come to expect from him, they did put him on the fringe of being an All-Star. It makes sense that he is one of the players picked to replace someone who cannot play.
Milwaukee Brewers All-Star Fun Facts

- Burnes became the fifth Brewers player in franchise history to make three-straight All-Star teams (Ryan Braun, Josh Hader, Dan Plesac, and Don Money)
- The last time Milwaukee had just one All-Star was 2017 (Corey Knebel)
- Milwaukee also had just one All-Star in 2016 (Jonathan Lucroy)
