Earlier this year Milwaukee Brewers prospect Tyler Black set a Biloxi Shuckers franchise record with a 35 game on-base streak. While the batting average is not a sexy number, (.265 currently) walks and stolen bases have been a big part of his game this year (.430 OBP).
As it stands today Tyler Black currently has the team and Southern League lead with 47 walks and 38 stolen bases. If he continues on this trajectory he may set a second Biloxi Shuckers franchise record.
Milwaukee Brewers prospect Tyler Black is closing in on a second Biloxi Shuckers franchise record.
Barring any injury or promotion to Triple-A Tyler Black is closing in on Johnny Davis’s record of 52 stolen bases in a single season while wearing a Shuckers uniform. He accomplished this in 2017 and was caught stealing on 12 occasions.
Currently Tyler Black has been caught on four stolen base attempts and needs just 14 more steals to tie the record. Scouts gave him just a 55 grade in regards to speed, so it is somewhat surprising to see him swiping bases at this rate.
There is a lot going right at the moment for the Brewers fifth ranked prospect. The former 33rd overall pick in 2021 is healthy, playing primarily third base, and excelling in a league that utilizes pre-tacked baseballs. At this point the only thing that may stop him from setting a second franchise record is a promotion to Triple-A.
