Minnesota Vikings quarterback Sam Darnold has been one of the biggest stories in the NFL through the first three weeks of the 2024 NFL season. The Vikings defeated the Houston Texans 34-7 on Sunday and Minnesota improves to 3-0 on the season ahead of Sunday’s matchup with the 2-1 Green Bay Packers.
In the game against Houston, Sam Darnold completed 17-of-28 passes for 181 yards and four interceptions. One of the key things in that game was he did not throw a single interception.
Minnesota Vikings Quarterback Sam Darnold Will Have an MRI On Monday Ahead Of the Green Bay Packers Matchup
At one point in the game against Houston, Darnold was injured and Nick Mullens had to come in for a snap. Sam Darnold came back into the game, but Mullens took a knee on the final play of the game.
On Monday, Darnold will undergo an MRI of his knee to see how severe the injury is. He spoke to Pro Football Talk on the phone after the game was over and said:
“It’s good, and that’s as much as I’m gonna say about that.”
We will see if Darnold can play on Sunday against the Green Bay Packers. If not, it would mean that Nick Mullens could very well get the start in the game.
J.J. McCarthy Suffered a Season-Ending Knee Injury Before the Season
This is not the first quarterback that the Minnesota Vikings have dealt with an injury this season. Rookie quarterback J.J. McCarthy had his season end in the preseason when he tore his meniscus. McCarthy was the 10th overall pick from Michigan in the 2024 NFL Draft.
Darnold and J.J. McCarthy were competing in training camp for the starting job until Darnold won it by default because of McCarthy’s injury. A lot of people are waiting to see what will happen with this news on Monday not only for the Vikings but for the Green Bay Packers as well.
