The Milwaukee Bucks got absolutely pummeled last night in San Francisco, as the Golden State Warriors showed no remorse in blowing out the Bucks 125-90. While stars Giannis Antetokounmpo and Damian Lillard did their usual thing, it was the other guys surrounding the dynamic duo that viably struggled. The Bucks were again without Khris Middleton, who’s been dealing with a left ankle sprain. This loss to the Warriors stops the Milwaukee Bucks’ six-game winning streak which sets them at 41-22, second in the Eastern Conference by a game over the third-seeded Cleveland Cavaliers.
As for the Warriors, Stephen Curry moved up on the charts, as he passed Baron Davis for the 40th most assists in NBA history. After losing their past two games, and being torched by the Celtics in their last game, the Warriors needed this game to keep themselves afloat within the Western Conference playoff race. Golden State is 32-28 after this win, holding the tenth and final Play-In Tournament spot. The last time these two teams played, the Bucks got the home win 129-118, with Antetokounmpo, and Lillard combining for 51 points.
Milwaukee Bucks 125-90 Loss Recap
Giannis went and scored his team’s first eight points of the game, as he hit a layup, caught an alley-oop from Lillard, then hit one of two free throws attempted. Jonathan Kuminga followed by scoring the Warriors’ first four points of the game with a layup, and then a dunk. Antetokounmpo scored once again on a three-ball. The two teams would go back and forth during the first few minutes of the first quarter until the Warriors started to slowly pull away. At one point, the Warriors held a ten-point lead, but it was cut to eight by the time the first quarter ended.
The Milwaukee Bucks started to lose momentum. Three minutes into the second quarter, they were down by 17 points. Milwaukee was able to cut the lead back to ten two minutes later with the help of Pat Connaughton, Patrick Beverly, and Bobby Portis Jr. While the Bucks tried to get back in the fight, they had no answer for Kuminga, Steph Curry, and Klay Thompson.
Going into halftime, the Warriors had a twenty-point lead with Steph Curry leading Golden State with 17 points, going six for ten from the field, and three for five from downtown. Kuminga followed with 16 points on 70 percent shooting. In sixteen minutes off the bench, Bobby Portis Jr. led all scorers with 18 points, going seven for nine from the field.
This fourth quarter was possibly one of the worst quarters we’ve seen from the Bucks team all season long. Milwaukee went four for 24 from the field and one for 13 from beyond the arc. They were outscored 32-9, and could not find any answers during those final 12 minutes. Stephen Curry led all scorers with 29 points to go along with his eight rebounds, and five assists. Giannis led the Bucks with 23 points. He also had seven rebounds, six assists, and a block. Both Damian Lillard and Bobby Portis Jr. finished the game with 20 points a piece. Antetokounmpo now has a career record of 8-10 against the Golden State Warriors.
Milwaukee Bucks’ Mentality and Maturity Will Be Tested
Going forward, Lillard, Antetokounmpo, and the entire roster’s mentality and maturity will be tested. This was a brutal loss to a team that’s lost their championship momentum. Milwaukee’s stars need to not only improve their game every night, but the surrounding players should be just as encouraged and confident if this team is going to go deep into the NBA Playoffs. Last night, guys like Malik Beasley went two for ten from the field, and Brook Lopez went four for 11. Other guys like Danilo Gallinari, Pat Beverly, MarJon Beauchamp, and Andre Jackson Jr. could not get a shot off from the field.
