The starting shooting guard spot is one of the biggest dilemmas the Milwaukee Bucks are facing this coming season. This is after they parted ways with Grayson Allen as part of the Damian Lillard blockbuster trade.
Allen, who started 70 games for the Bucks last season, landed with the Phoenix Suns as part of the Dame trade. His departure leaves a gaping hole in Milwaukee’s lineup heading into the new season.
Former Milwaukee Bucks Guard Fighting for Starting Spot
Right now, Allen is also fighting for a starting gig with his new team. He’s been impressive in the preseason for the Suns, and it looks like he now has a clear path to the starting five of Phoenix’s star-studded lineup.
Eric Gordon, Josh Okogie, and Damion Lee are Allen’s main competition for the starting wing spot for Phoenix alongside Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, Bradley Beal, and new recruit Jusuf Nurkic.
When asked about the prospect of getting the starting nod for the Suns, Allen got brutally honest in his response:
“I feel like we can throw a lot of different lineups out,” Allen said, via Gerald Bourguet of PHNX Sports. “It doesn’t really matter to me, it’s not a pride thing to start the game.”

This is exactly the type of response you would expect from a dude like Grayson Allen. It’s this unselfish attitude that allowed him to succeed in his two years in Milwaukee, and it appears that this will also be the case for him with the Suns.
Allen knows that he will be able to impact the game regardless of whether he starts or not, which is why he’s not paying much attention to this matter at this point.
