The Milwaukee Bucks ended their season on a sour note on Sunday after their deflating 113-88 loss at the hands of the Orlando Magic. This was their sixth loss in their last eight games, which is anything but an ideal way to get themselves ready for the upcoming NBA Playoffs.
Milwaukee Bucks News: Doc Rivers Gets Real on Loss Vs. Magic
Bucks head coach Doc Rivers was far from pleased after watching his team suffer another blowout loss. After the game, the veteran shot-caller dropped a brutally harsh assessment of his team’s performance on the day as he pinpointed his squad’s lack of effectiveness when it comes to isolation plays:
“I thought way too many isos, and not only did we iso we iso’d the wrong guy – Jonathan Isaac changed the game for them,” Rivers said, via Jim Owczarski of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. “He’s long, he’s effective and we just kept setting pick-and-rolls with him instead of other guys. But, good lesson.
“We’re not a good iso team, though. I think we’ve proven that through the year. We are at times but I think we’re up nine and we had 10 or 11 straight possessions and we may have scored once. We may not have scored any of ’em. That’s something – I talked about at halftime, I talked about it before the game – that’s just something we have to catch ourselves. We have to be better in that.”
The fact that arguably their best isolation player, Giannis Antetokounmpo, was out of the picture yet again in this one only made things worse for Milwaukee.
Poor Shot Selection
Coach Doc wasn’t done. He then went on to criticize his team’s shot selection against Orlando. According to Rivers, pretty much nothing went right for the Bucks on Sunday:
“I didn’t like many of our looks,” Rivers said. “I thought defensively they were great. I didn’t like a lot of our looks. I didn’t like a lot of our possessions and that’s on me trying to get them in the right spot. We didn’t run a very good offensive game tonight.”
Milwaukee did lose by 25 points so you can’t really argue with Rivers’ evaluation here. What you can say for sure is that the Bucks need to be much better than this if they want to go far in the postseason.
