New York Knicks guard Jalen Brunson was all class in his response when he was recently asked about his thoughts on Milwaukee Bucks superstar Damian Lillard getting the nod to start for the East team in the upcoming NBA All-Star Game.

“Congrats to Damian Lillard,” Brunson said in the locker room following the Knicks’ 122-94 win at home over the reigning NBA champions Denver Nuggets on Jan. 25.

While Brunson sounded cool about Lillard starting over him at the 2024 NBA All-Star Game at Gainbridge Fieldhouse in Indianapolis, the tone isn’t as friendly when it comes to the reactions of fans and other experts. Many believe that Brunson should be a starter and Lillard shouldn’t. That being said, it can’t be denied that Lillard edged Brunson in fan votes, which makes up 50% of the ballot; Lillard ranked third in fan votes, while Brunson is fifth. Brunson, however, ranks higher than Lillard in terms of votes from fellow NBA players and the media.
Lillard isn’t having a sparkling January, which is also fueling the spirits of his detractors and pro-Jalen Brunson crowd. The now 8-time NBA All-Star has averaged 23.5 points through 14 games this month but has shot just 38.9 percent from the field. Overall in the 2023-24 NBA season, Lillard is averaging 25.1 points on 42.2 percent shooting from the floor.
