Does Giannis Antetokounmpo really intend to leave the Milwaukee Bucks in the near future? Depending on how you translate his recent comments about winning a championship, you could make an argument for both sides. What is clear, however, is that this eye-opening message has caused quite a stir throughout the basketball world.
Richard Jefferson Predicts Giannis Antetokounmpo’s Milwaukee Bucks Exit
Former Bucks forward Richard Jefferson has now chimed in on all this drama. In his mind, the ex-All-Star believes that Giannis could very well take his talents away from Milwaukee if they are not able to satisfy one particular urge:
“[Bucks can retain Giannis] If they win a Championship in the next two years, if they doesn’t, I think he’s gone,” Jefferson said on a recent episode of Road Trippin’ podcast, via Ananth Narasimman of The Sports Rush. “… I don’t think the Bucks are back at the drawing board. I think they changed their coach, I think they got two years…If they win a championship I think he will stay, if they do not, I think he will have an opportunity to move on.”
Some people believe that Giannis was bluffing when he said that he would jump ship if the organization’s championship aspirations no longer align with his. Well, RJ is not one of those people. Jefferson believes that Giannis has put the team on the clock with his straightforward statement.
According to RJ, Milwaukee has two years before Antetokounmpo decides to call time on his tenure with the team. If the Bucks don’t win a championship between now and 2024, then he’s out. Incidentally, this is also when Giannis’ current contract runs out.
The silver lining here is that two years is a very long time. That’s two full NBA seasons, including the upcoming 2023-24 campaign. Giannis has put a lot of pressure not only on the organization but on himself as well to win it all this year. Or next.
