Following Thursday’s 111-99 blowout win against the Charlotte Hornets, the Milwaukee Bucks are now 4-0 since they returned from the All-Star break. Giannis Antetokounmpo has been a dominant force of late, and there’s no denying that Milwaukee’s success can be attributed to the former back-to-back MVP’s elite level of play.
Antetokounmpo hasn’t been doing it all by his lonesome, though. In fact, Giannis himself singled out one particular teammate who you could say has been an unsung hero throughout the Bucks’ recent surge.
Milwaukee Bucks Talisman Giannis Antetokounmpo Heaps Praise on Malik Beasley
Malik Beasley is no star, but he’s absolutely one of the most important players on the roster at the moment. Being the fifth starter amongst an array of big names, it’s easy to overlook Beasley’s contributions to the team’s success.
Giannis, however, has not failed to notice what Beasley has brought to the table for the Bucks:
“He’s been unbelievable for the team,” Antetokounmpo said, via Eric Nehm of The Athletic. “He’s doing his job. But lately, it starts defensively for him. Usually when he gets his feet right, he gets into players, moves his feet, makes it tough, doesn’t get screened and then when he goes the other way, he spaces the floor so well. He had the one in the first half that he ran full speed to the corner, catch and shoot, and made that. (That was) one of the toughest ones today.”
Beasley has emerged as one of the deadliest marksmen in the NBA today. The fact that he knocked down another five triples on Thursday against Charlotte — a record-breaking feat that he has achieved 15 times already this season — is a clear testament to this fact.
However, as Giannis pointed out, the Bucks need more from Beasley than just his sharpshooting prowess. The 6-foot-4 guard has to be a point-of-attack defender — a role that he has played excellently of late. So much so, that even Antetokounmpo himself has had to take notice.
